A kiwi classic.

At over 153 years old The Riverhead Tavern is one of New Zealand’s oldest public bars. By 2009 however this iconic watering hole had slipped into a such a state of disrepair that it’s future looked bleak. Step in Stephen and Paula Pepperell. They had the vision and willpower to completely transform the pub and it is now recognised as one of New Zealand’s finest.

Part of relaunching the Riverhead Tavern was the creation of a website. It needed to provide all the basic information that customers were looking for – opening hours, location, menus and what events were happening. And importantly the site had to give the online audience a feel for this special Riverhead experience.

Right Hand Man took the brand identity and developed a site that bought The Riverhead to life. Visually the site took its cues from the timber finishes and historical pieces associated with the pub. A busy ‘lots happening’ look reflected the variety of activities going on in the pubs four distinct zones.

Like every Right Hand Man site it was easy to navigate and it was built to finish high on Google rankings. (Type in ‘Riverhead’ and the pub comes up top of the list on the first page). The site was also built with a back end that’s allowed Stephen and Paula to update details easily and free-of-charge.

The Riverhead website attracts significant traffic, with visitor numbers increasing steadily since going live in January 2011.

Here's What The Riverhead has to say about working with us:

“Right from the start we found Right Hand Man amazing to work with. They listened carefully to our brief and added some great insights. All the way through the process they were approachable, fast and their creativity gave us a website we are proud of and one that works extremely well for us.”
